The Ultimate Beef Lasagne

A Family Favourite:

Hey guys, so a huge family favourite has got to be The Ultimate Beef Lasagne that I made earlier this week.  I had to share it with you.  One cannot go wrong with this. Its super easy, really quick and fun to make.  I usually alternate between beef or chicken, depending on what everyone is in the mood for that day.  Shredded chicken works best for me, but chicken slices or strips could work too.

 

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 Onion

1 kg Ground Beef

1 tsp Ginger

1 tsp Garlic

1 tsp Garam Masala

1 tbs Soy

1 tbs Chutney

1 tbs BBQ sauce

Lasagne Sheets approx. 14 large sheets

For the White Sauce:

40 grams’ butter

2 tbs Flour

1 tsp Oregano

2-4 cups Milk

2-3 tsp Sugar

1 cup Cheddar Cheese

Salt and Pepper to taste

Chop the onion and allow it to simmer for 2 min.  Add ginger, garlic and garam masala. Let everything cook on medium heat for 5 min.

Pop your mince in and mix well. Be sure to add you Soy sauce here too.  Add salt and pepper to taste.

The Chutney and BBQ sauce is an optional step, I would however be sure to add a little extra Soy sauce just to add a little more flavour if you decide against the Chutney and BBQ sauce. Mix everything well and allow to cook through on a medium heat for 5 min.

 

The White Sauce:

In a separate sauce pan melt the butter on a low heat.  Once it’s completely melted, with the help of a whisk, slowly add your flour.  Allow your flour so simmer ever so slightly for 2-3min.

While your flour is cooking through, add the oregano, sugar, salt and pepper.

The amount of milk you decide to use depends on the consistency you’re looking for. The less milk you use the thicker the sauce will be.  For this dish we’re looking for a creamy, thick consistency. I used close to 4 cups of milk.

If you want a cheesy sauce, I’d add an extra cup of Mozzarella cheese or ½ a cup of parmesan. There is no wrong choice when it comes to cheese here!

Assembling the Lasagne:

The trick with this dish is to make sure your white sauce and mince is still hot while assembling your Lasagne. Before popping it into the oven you’re going to allow the Lasagne to stand for approx. 10-15 min.  This allows the Lasagne sheets to cook through without boiling them beforehand.

Be sure not to overlap your sheets, even if you must break each sheet do so.

Spread some mince on your first layer with a few spoons of white sauce, and combine them together as pictured above.  Repeat this step for 2-3 layers.

Allow your oven to preheat to 190˚C while your Lasagne stands for 10-15 min.  Then bake the Lasagne for 15-20 min or until cheese is golden brown.
